Vast expanse of land located in the extreme west of the Maghreb, Morocco owes its originality to an astonishing geographical diversity. Plains, mountains, deserts, Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts have always held the proud people of their regional particularities. These multiple landscapes have also attracted great conquerors and promoted the mixing of cultures. Thus Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Andalusians and Africans brought to Morocco countless riches, material or spiritual, which now constitute the essence of Moroccan culture.
This all-round diversity presented in Morocco, however, some disadvantages. The creation of a "Moroccan unity" seemed a challenge.
